Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our services, process, and approach to native landscaping.
Stonewall Garden provides on-site consultation, design, and installation services within 25 miles (driving distance) from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. This includes most of the greater Akron area, parts of Cleveland's eastern suburbs, and surrounding communities.
To check if you're in our service area, enter your address when you request a consultation and we'll confirm whether we can serve you.
Outside our service area? We don't offer remote design services, but we're happy to refer you to other native plant professionals in your region.
Note: Properties within our core area (18 miles) receive standard pricing. Properties 18–25 miles away have a 15% travel surcharge.
Absolutely! Here are excellent resources for finding native plant landscapers:
Some colleagues in the Cleveland area I recommend:
Comprehensive Ohio Directory: Meadow City Native Landscaper Directory
Additional national resources: Homegrown National Park, Wild Ones Greater Cleveland, Native Plant Society of Northeast Ohio all maintain directories of native plant professionals.
Attending the Summit Metro Parks Native Plant Festival (May 16, 2026)? You'll have a chance to connect with dozens of nurseries and native plant professionals who may serve your area.
Consultation availability varies by season. This spring (through the end of April), consultations are available Monday through Thursday, 9am–4pm.
Consultation slots are limited — we keep the schedule intentionally small to make sure each client gets our full attention. If our current openings don't match your schedule, mention it in your request and we'll do our best to find something that works.
Not typically. Consultations require good natural light to assess sun/shade patterns and site conditions, and we reserve weekends for family time. Our weekday availability works well for most clients, including those who work from home or can take time during the week.
Reach out if you're having trouble finding an opening that fits your schedule.
During your 60-minute on-site consultation, we'll:
This consultation gives you expert guidance whether you plan to DIY or move forward with our design and installation services.
Yes! The consultation fee is fully credited toward any design or installation package you choose. Think of it as a deposit on your project that ensures you get expert guidance regardless of which direction you go.
Yes! The digital edition is available for $45 in our shop. It's perfect for DIY enthusiasts who want expert guidance on native plant selection, site preparation, and care.
Absolutely! Many clients prefer to handle installation themselves or hire their own contractors. We offer design services for projects of all sizes — pricing is based on your garden's scope and square footage, starting at $250 for smaller beds and scaling for larger or more complex properties.
Every design package includes professional site analysis, scaled design drawings, a detailed plant list, and installation guidelines so you (or your contractor) have everything needed to bring the plan to life.
See our Services page for full pricing details.
We typically don't install designs created by other designers, as we can't guarantee plant selection, spacing, and site suitability without having assessed the project ourselves.
If you're a previous Stonewall Garden design client and would like us to handle the installation of your existing plan, that is something we can arrange. Pricing follows the original design scope with a small re-mobilization premium.
If you have a design from another source, we're happy to schedule a consultation to review it and discuss how we might be able to help — or provide feedback on implementing it yourself.
Native plants are an excellent choice for almost any landscape! They're adapted to our local climate and soil, which means:
The initial consultation is perfect for first-time native gardeners — we'll answer all your questions and create a plan that fits your comfort level.
Not when designed well! Native plant gardens can range from formal and structured to naturalistic meadows — whatever suits your aesthetic. During the consultation and design process, we'll discuss your preferences and create a plan that looks beautiful while supporting local ecosystems.
First year: Moderate maintenance (regular watering, weeding every couple of weeks during establishment).
After establishment: Low maintenance — occasional weeding, seasonal cleanup, minimal watering. Native plants are significantly lower maintenance than traditional lawns and ornamental gardens because they're adapted to our climate.
We provide detailed care guides with every project.
Due to severe allergies to urushiol (the oil in poison ivy, oak, and sumac), we have modified service arrangements for properties with these plants in the work area.
We can provide:
We cannot physically work in areas with poison ivy present. If your property has poison ivy, let us know during the consultation request, and we'll discuss the best approach for your project.
It depends on the scope! Here are general ranges:
During your consultation, we'll provide a detailed estimate based on your specific project. See our full Services & Pricing page for more detail.

It varies by season! Spring and fall are our busiest times. After requesting a consultation, we'll let you know our current availability. Generally:
Spring and fall are ideal planting times in Ohio. However, consultations and design work can happen year-round. Many clients consult in winter to be ready for spring installation!
We're happy to talk through your project before you commit to anything.
